Condition

This work is in very good and sound condition overall. All elements are present and stable. The sheet is hinged intermittently along the reverse to the backing board. There is an undulation and soft creasing to the sheets, visible upon close inspection and likely inherent to the nature of the artist's chosen medium. The upper right quadrant of the largest sheet is visibly torn, likely inherent to the artist's chosen medium. There are scattered accretions and handling marks throughout and water marks to the larger sheet, all likely inherent to the artist's chosen medium and the nature of the sketches. Framed under Plexiglas.

拍品資料及來源

Beginning his career as a gallerist, Mark Grotjahn began honing his own skills as an artist through a conceptual practice where he would faithfully reproduce signs placed in the windows of stores in his native Los Angeles and trade them with the shop owners for the original signs. From here, the artist began to explore using shifting perspectives on one surface, culminating in the Butterflyseries, which features highly abstracted forms of butterflies, painted using very precise, linear colors to express the form of a butterfly to the viewer.
