Condition

Colour The colour in the catalogue illustration is fairly accurate although the overall tonality is slightly lighter and more vibrant in the original. Condition: This work is in very good and original condition. The sheet is hinged verso to the backing board in numerous places and undulates slightly. The two horizontal edges are deckled. All surface irregularities and media accretions are in keeping with the artists working process. Extremely close inspection reveals some minute nicks to the vertical edges and a minute and unobtrusive tear to the centre of the right hand edge. No restoration is apparent when examined under ultraviolet light.
"In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective, qualified opinion. Harland Miller's paintings are unusual in the range of current contemporary art in that they are, first, self-evidently painterly paintings and, second, companionable; they can make you laugh. Gordon Burn: ‘Working Titles’, The Guardian, 5 May 2007, online
