Condition

- painting was relined - slightly worn in some areas which have been very lightly covered up - under UV light : * retouch by the frame : in the sky by the left and on the upper area, in the lower right and left corners ; one vertical retouch on the lower border (restored tear) on approx. 5 cm * small retouche on the model's lip * small retouch on a pearl on the necklace * scattered retouches on the belt, costume and one more important retouch by the right hip Very good overall condition.

Son of painter Hippolyte Lecomte and nephew of Horace Vernet, Emile Lecomte-Vernet studied with his uncle and with Léon Cogniet. He traveled to Algeria, Morocco and Egypt. From 1843, he regularly exhibits at the Paris Salon orientalist subjects among others. A print after this composition was edited by "Gravure Goupil et Cie".
