There is a faint starcrack to the interior of the dish, 3.5 cm across. There are three minute hairlines at the rim, barely visible - a 0.7 cm line at the 4 o clock position from the mark, and 2 tiny lines of approx 0.5cm close together at the 10 o clock position. There is an inscribed 'tian' character at the base, which may be a collector's mark.

成窰御製黃釉

成化年款瓷器，不論造型紋飾，皆為御瓷中之精品，一器難求。成化署款黃釉盤例尤其珍稀，傳世僅二十餘件，大小不一，撇口及直口等造型各異，當中私人收藏僅三件，其餘悉由世界各地博物館珍藏；拍賣市場僅曾見過四例，本品為其中之一。

明黃，昔為御用之色。黃釉之器，相信有別於一般御瓷，為宮廷重用。十五世紀初，明代御窰已試燒黃釉瓷，然傳世精品極罕。正統至天順年間，史稱空白期，御窰生產停滯，乏黃釉瓷燒造記錄。憲宗成化年間，御窰始復燒黃釉瓷，但傳世成化黃釉器依然屈指可數。

江西景德鎮御窰遺址出土物文獻中，未見有成化黃釉瓷片記錄。1990年代，朱湯生到訪景德鎮，就此疑團請教時任御窰考古隊主管的劉新園。劉氏聞言，隨即指示助手挪出一大木箱，內滿載成窰黃釉瓷片。我們猶在驚嘆之際，劉氏補充指，景德鎮陶瓷考古研究所尚有大量裝滿成化地層出土黃釉殘片的木箱。如此大量刻意棄絕之黃釉次品，足證成化年間官窰對御瓷品質要求嚴謹，且慎控御窰成品去向，只許佳器美瓷上供京師。

成窰美瓷，質感溫潤滑膩，縱然閉上雙目，仍可憑手感辨認，歷代御瓷無出其右。成化御瓷胎釉用料精純，加以燒製技藝臻善，白胎罩施透明釉，微受煙，略朦朧，此乃成窰御瓷獨有。台北故宮博物院藏數件成化黃釉盤，均可為證（見下列文獻，台北，2003年）。

有兩件成化黃釉盤，造型及尺寸與本品相同，可資比較，同載於朱湯生，〈List of Patterns of Chenghua Porcelain in Collections Worldwide〉，《The Emperor's Broken China: Reconstructing Chenghua Porcelain》，蘇富比，倫敦，1995年，頁122及128（M6）；其一為上海博物館藏，圖也見於陸明華，《上海博物館藏品研究大系：明代官窰瓷器》，上海，2007年，圖版3-68；另一件器底與本品同鐫「甜」字，例屬 R.H.R. Palmer 伉儷舊藏，售於倫敦蘇富比1968年5月28日，編號99。另有一近例，現存北京故宮博物院，見《中國陶瓷全集》，上海，1999-2000年，卷13，圖版35。

台北故宮博物院藏品清單《故宮瓷器錄》列有七件成化銘款黃釉盤例，當中三件器形與此相類，口沿外撇，然尺寸稍大，另有直口者三，還有一撇口盤例，外壁罩施黃釉，然盤心留白。此上所列，其中四盤曾展於《成化瓷器特展》，國立故宮博物院，台北，2003年，編號90-93。

朱湯生著作載錄直口盤兩例，尺寸較大，現藏北京故宮博物院，其一載錄於《故宮博物院藏文物珍品全集．單色釉》，香港，1999年，圖版35。大維德爵士收藏成化黃釉盤有二，尺寸稍大，現蓄於大英博物館，見蘇玫瑰及畢宗陶，《Flawless Porcelains: Imperial Ceramics from the Reign of the Chenghua Emperor》，倫敦，1995年，圖版29及30。

南京博物院藏錄一例，朱氏清單有載，出處同上（M6a）。Eumorfopoulos 舊藏尚有一例，現藏倫敦維多利亞與艾伯特博物館，曾展於《Ming and Ch’ing Porcelain》，Bluett & Sons，倫敦，1933年，編號8，圖版V。Ferdinand N. Schiller 藏一例，現展於布里斯托博物館與美術館。克里夫蘭美術館藏另一例，出自 Severance A. and Greta Millikin 舊藏，收錄於該館展覽《The World of Ceramics》，克里夫蘭，1982年，編號129。倫敦蘇富比曾售兩例，其一屬 Enid and Brodie Lodge 舊藏，售於1968年12月10日，編號119；另一件出自 Ivo Pakenham 舊藏，售於1981年4月7日，編號250。

本品歷數次易手，當中細節值得參詳。早年 John Sparks Ltd 在倫敦蘇富比以2,200英鎊拍得本品，同場競投者包括代表康利夫勛爵（Lord Cunliffe）之 Bluett & Sons，然出價至2,000英鎊仍競投不果。翌年此品再現拍場，Bluett’s 終以170英鎊購入，後又以480英鎊售予羅傑琵金頓。
