There is a shallow flake on the rim that has been polished over a surface of 1.2 by 0.2cm, and a 1.3cm firing line on the edge of the rim. Otherwise the piece is in excellent condition.

自北齊起，中國各地窰口所燒製瓷器，皆見有以對比鮮明之彩釉隨意點飾斑紋者，直至唐宋朝如是。然而鈞窰藍釉銅紅斑者，卻非隨意點潑，而屬著意描繪，如此特色，有別與他器。學者柯玫瑰提到鈞瓷上的斑彩是以銅紅釉粗獷刷繪，或塗覆於天青釉面、高溫中還原，融合一體而形成的，見《Song Dynasty Ceramics》，倫敦，2004年，頁34。如此斑紋，有賴藝匠刷繪釉料手藝，以釉料分佈及兩彩比重見高下，如此特質，與抽象畫作異曲同工。本品紫斑超卓臻善，令人驚嘆。

鈞窰器，誠宋瓷中最為艷麗奪目者，以河南禹州鈞台窰為主要窰址，但河南其他地區也有燒造，當中包括寶豐清涼寺汝窰，相信始製於北宋末年，至少續燒至明。鈞窰器銅紅彩斑斕明豔，規則不一，紋雖簡，飾卻華，猶如法書揮毫，每品均獨一無二，因而深得當時文人貴冑青睞，本品正是佳例。

本盤僅以五顆支釘承托燒造，足見其工藝之巧。鈞窰器一般圈足素胎立燒，僅少數採滿釉三支或五支釘燒，本品即屬其一。如此精妙技巧，或取思自鄰近之汝窰。

比較一 Eumorfopoulos 舊藏例，施相近銅紅斑，盤底也帶五支釘痕，現藏於倫敦維多利亞與艾伯特博物館，載於柯玫瑰，出處同上，圖版26。北京故宮博物院收藏一例，飾數點紅斑，因此畫面效果與此迥異，三支釘燒，圖見《鈞瓷雅集：故宮博物院珍藏及出土鈞窰瓷器薈萃》，北京，2013年，圖版21。另可參考一例，由 William Cleverly Alexander 及 Peter Harris 遞藏，曾展於東方陶瓷學會《Sung Dynasty Wares. Chün and Brown Glazes》，倫敦，1952年，編號153，三度售於倫敦蘇富比，1931年5月6日，編號144、1955年4月26日，編號79及1998年11月18日，編號857，期間亦一度易手於香港蘇富比1985年5月21日，編號 70。台北故宮博物院也藏一例，尺寸稍大，圖見《故宮藏瓷大系：鈞窰之部》，台北，1999年，圖版57。再比較數例，斑紋相近，尺寸卻異，售於倫敦蘇富比2004年6月9日，編號172及另一 Oscar Bjork 及 Klas Fahraeus 舊藏例，售於倫敦蘇富比2012年5月16日，編號85。
