The work is overall in very good condition except a minor paint loss on the lower right corner. There is no sign of retouching found under UV examination.

抽象與平面空間感
轉向在1955年前後首先顯露端倪,《莊園 07.52-05.06.55》(拍品編號1002)一作正好珍貴的呈現當時微妙的轉折變化。作品創作經年,從1952年至1955年,反覆錘鍊,甚至橫跨靜物及甲骨文兩個時期,在同一畫面匯合了風景和甲骨文的線條元素,這在趙無極現存著錄作品中,是非常少見的。同樣以線條和色彩表現物象,《莊園 07.52-05.06.55》的線條顯得更為抽象,從風景建築脫化出來的纖細線條,變得更為獨立,自由變化,橫直曲折,疏密聚散之間組合出如甲骨文辭的結構形式,主導畫面。線條的變化,引導出突破嶄新的空間表現形式。空間表現是趙無極在五〇年代反覆思考的課題,當時的藝術家每天都去參觀美術館及各種展覽,如他自述:
「我一直很佩服奇馬布埃和他處理空間的方式……野獸派著實讓我大吃一驚!它的空間完全是由顏色的處理中產生⋯⋯至於立體派更使我傻了眼,它折解動作、分割平面,解構了空間。我從不知道空間可以如此多度次元,真是不可思議。」
《莊園 07.52-05.06.55》顯然是經年琢磨,領受啟發的思考成果,純以線條分割畫面,線條疏密調和與律動引領觀者遊轉整個畫面;更兼有色彩的由淺而深,濃淡漸變,如嵐氣雲霧漸漸湧現,或是曙光晨暉滲出畫面,否定了三維立體空間,反而強調了平面空間上無窮變化的視覺趣味和美感,這正是抽象藝術的一個重要表徽。平面空間感在1955年完成的《莊園 07.52-05.06.55》非常明確顯現而不見於更早的《圓桌靜物》(拍品編號1001),足見在1950年代中期藝術家已進一步向抽象和甲骨線條形式邁進更大一步,緊接進入他所自述「一個不可逆轉的新階段的開始」。(文/鍾嘉賢)
