此鉑金錶款於2003年推出，向約於1956生產的長方形陀飛輪腕錶致敬，此型號記載於Huber, M. & Banberry, A.所著的《百達翡麗懷錶》第二版第一卷第178-179頁。
三段階梯式錶殼設計呈現其早期裝飾藝術風格。為了將兩種罕有複雜的功能結合，百達翡麗工程師花費三年的時間，研發出可以承受十日鍊運行所需扭力的新型陀飛輪機芯。為了避免分鐘齒輪遮擋陀飛輪運轉之美態，整個動力傳輸機制的位置被移至錶盤側方。陀飛輪作為機芯主要部件則位處機芯橋一側，透過藍寶石水晶錶背透蓋可一覽無遺。旋轉陀飛輪架包含了72個精密部件，僅重0.3克。
雙發條盒內所串聯的發條提供10日動力儲存所需之能量，兩者同時上鏈，大發條盒可將動能轉移至另一小發條盒。前者備有調節器系統，防止主發條上鏈過度，在上滿鏈時脫離發條桶。因腕錶結構繁複精細，製錶師需要三個月時間才能完成一隻5101型號腕錶的製作。
