thickly potted, of deep conical form, the gently rounded sides rising from a short tapered foot to an indented groove beneath the rim, the interior and exterior applied with a lustrous iridescent black glaze, with coppery 'oil spots' at the rim, extending to silvery-blue 'hare's fur' striations to the sides, the glaze pooling unevenly above the foot to reveal the dark brown stoneware body, the rim bound in a white metal band, Japanese wood box (2)

Condition

In excellent general condition. The glaze remarkably preserved with only very minimal scattered light surface wear. The rim beneath the metal band not inspected, the adhesive fixing the band to the rim visible in areas. Several minute glaze flakes and a small area of fill beneath the rim, measuring approx. 1.2cm across and extending 0.2 cm max down visible. Minor firing imperfections, including a 0.2cm diam. glaze recess or burst glaze bubble to the lower body to exterior, and wear to foot.

南宋建窰黑釉兔毫紋

閩北有窰,宋燒黑瓷,釉面盈潤光潔,纖俊秀逸,迎光而視,宛若五色天虹,頓挫明滅,以兔毫、油滴,聞名於世,人盡惜之。

建盞之盛,應源於宋代品茗傳統。宋時禪僧尤奉茶事,飲茶以靜神養身。時人飲茶,先刮茶餅取粉,微烘細磨後篩煉提精,繼著少水調攪,再注水並以筅擊拂至起湯花,以花多且久不散者為上。

建窰黑盞,其質謙素內斂,胎體厚重,舉而不燙,茶溫久恆,釉色沉黑,注茶擊拂,起白花,便於觀色,故為鬥茶絕品。

自北宋始,文人雅士,時常詠頌建窰黑盞,謂之賞茶佳器。如黃庭堅、楊萬里、蘇東坡等,或詠其紋,或讚其形。宋徽宗趙佶,鍾迷茶事,尤賞兔毫,稱其為建盞之最,詳見 Robert D. Mowry,《Hare’s Fur, Tortoiseshell and Partridge Feathers》,哈佛大學藝術博物館,劍橋,麻省,1996年,頁30。時至南宋,都城南遷,更近產地,尚建之風繼盛。建窰雖承御貢,然或因其釉色多變難控,故未納入官窰之列,見器底署款「供御」或「進盞」者,亦多與常品無異。

建窰之盞,其釉萬殊,見絲絲細紋者,謂之兔毫,日本稱「禾目」,亦見作圓點緻密之樣者,謂之油滴。後者尤珍,燒造時需避其流淌,故成品尚難。

本品建盞,施釉垂厚,色凝亮,口沿點點,輝若錦鱗,呈斷岸千尺之勢,灑作般般雲絲,光射處,七彩之色,滿目皆然,當屬上品。

杭州以西有山,名為天目山,山中寺僧以建盞飲茶,時日本禪宗僧人至此,得建盞,甚為珍之,即攜其而歸,深受推崇,謂之「天目」,對後世日本茶道影響深遠。

自元代起,各地窰廠始燒青白等瓷,故建窰日趨衰落。而日本茶道則仍然保留點茶傳統,奉建盞為瑰寶,加以鑒賞珍藏,且日本極重「伝世」傳統,尤以宋瓷為珍,建盞多配嵌螺鈿盞托,儲於專製配盒之中,世代遞傳,故不少建窰精良名器,今皆存日本。
