朱德群對於東方《易經》哲學深感興趣，易經論及宇宙萬物的原理，言「太極一氣產陰陽，陰陽化合生五行，五行既萌合萬物。」陰與陽，是構成生命的生生不息的兩個元素，「陰」為陰暗、濕潤，「陽」為熱烈、光亮，透過陰陽的運動，生成無窮盡的宇宙現象。朱德群亦試圖以抽象的色線來提出對此哲學的美感詮釋。表現在1989 《自然之氣韻》，觀者可顯見具強烈明暗對比的空間，內蘊的光彩從畫布的核心往外擴散開來，光明與黑暗在其中交會、碰撞，吟唱著宇宙的旋律，透過戲劇性的布局與細膩的鋪排，朱德群將俯仰大自然間所取得的靈感賦予詩情和詩意，展現在我們的眼前，邀請觀者入畫。
