each side solidly cast with a pair of confronting sinuous dragons in pursuit of a 'flaming pearl' among swirling clouds, below three narrower borders collaring the waisted neck with further dragons and a ruyi-head lappet band enclosing the galleried mouth, the neck set with a pair of C-shaped archaistic dragon handles suspending loose rings decorated with C-scrolls, the foot skirted by a ring of plantain leaves above the six-character reign mark reading Da Qing Qianlong nian zao (Made during the Qianlong reign) in a line within a framed panel, marble stand

Condition
This rare vase is in good condition, but does have some minor nicks and scratches to the upper side of the rim and underside of the foot. There is some minor rubbing to the patina throughout, especially on the heads of the dragons, the pearls and the raised ribs to the shoulder and neck.

此壺尺寸碩大，佈局豐富，造工華麗，騰龍乘雲飛天，極具皇者氣派，彰顯乾隆盛世；其以青銅禮器為雛本，綴以當朝新飾，集古今於一體。見相類對例，飾鳳凰圖紋，特為高宗太后而製，屬Alfred Morrison收藏，2004年11月9日售於倫敦佳士得，編號17；另見一壺，售於倫敦佳士得1981年7月22日，編號110；尚有一例，尺寸較小，缺一壺耳，售於倫敦蘇富比2011年5月11日，編號254。
如斯銅壺，乃五供之一，為宮中寺廟而設，多為皇帝所供造，用於祭典儀式，以威嚴碩大之姿，尤顯隆重鼎盛。參考一套五供，包括一對相近大壺、一對燭臺及一香爐，售於蘇富比2008年4月11日，編號2826；紫禁城慈寧宮花園之咸若館，為后妃禮佛之所，設有一套相近大例，素面無紋，載於《清代宮廷生活》，香港，1985年，圖版467。
比較一對御製方壺例，飾龍鳳紋，為圓明園一殿而製，三度售於蘇富比，分別為1997年4月29/30日，編號730；2006年4月10日，編號1537及2007年10月9日，編號1322。
