well painted to each side with an elaborate medallion of interlaced ruyi heads enclosing trefoils and linked by demi-florets, superimposed on radiating lappets centered on a ring of inward pointing petals, all within a band of classic scrolls, the upper bulb painted with a narrow band of floral scrolls, the ribbed strap handles with shaped terminals enclosing stylised floral sprays, all raised on a low rectangular foot

Condition
The mouth has been broken and restuck with original pieces except for a C-shaped refilled chip of approx. 1.5 by 1 cm to the rim (showing on the illustration in the catalogue). It is slightly leaning forward. Otherwise the condition is good. The tone of blue is slightly deeper and more ultramarine, less cobalt compared to the catalogue illustration.

此青花抱月瓶，造型及紋飾之創造靈感源自中東地區，開中國瓷器新風尚。其上所繪寶相輪花紋亦或與中東頗有淵源，唯頸部細窄纏枝花卉與瓶耳折枝花卉紋飾為中國裝飾紋樣。精細花卉與嚴謹幾何紋飾之搭配，使整體設計平添氣韻與美感。
景德鎮明代御窰廠遺址瓷器堆積中出土一相似作例，展於《景德鎮出土明初官窰瓷器》，鴻禧美術館，台北，1996年，編號65。另見一類例，貯於東京日本梅澤紀念館，載於《世界陶磁全集》，卷14，東京，1976年，圖版144。《明清瓷器鑒定》也有一例，香港，1993年，頁21，圖版30。Mount Trust 雅蓄也有例可參，展於《The Mount Trust Collection of Chinese Ceramics》，維多利亞與艾伯特博物館，倫敦，1970年，編號83，後售於倫敦佳士得1983年4月19日，編號20。拍賣市場也有數例，一售於香港蘇富比1981年11月24日，編號80，另一售於香港佳士得2004年11月1日，編號826，還有一例，瓶身繪太極圖案，售於巴黎蘇富比2009年12月18日，編號65。
台北故宮藏例，飾有與本品相似之紋，其尺寸較小且瓶頸稍鼓，錄於《明宣德瓷器特展目錄》，國立故宮博物院，台北，1982年，編號9。另可比較一宣德年款例，一面飾相似之寶相輪花紋，另一面中心則繪太極陰陽八卦圖，周圍環飾纏枝花卉，屬大維德爵士典藏，現存大英博物館，刊於 R.L. Hobson，《A Catalogue of Chinese Pottery and Porcelain in the Collection of Sir Percival David》，倫敦，1936年，圖版CXVII。再參考一葫蘆扁瓶例，為仇焱之舊藏，曾展於《Exhibition of Blue-Decorated Porcelain of the Ming Dynasty》，費城美術館，美國費城，1949年，編號69，後售於香港蘇富比1980年11月25日，編號7。
雖現未發現與本品器型相類之中東陶器或金屬器，但有關抱月瓶器型來源之討論可見於Margaret Medley，〈Islam and Chinese Porcelain in the 14th and Early 15th Centuries〉，《Bulletin of the Oriental Ceramic Society of Hong Kong》，編號6，1982-4年，或參考 John Alexander Pope，〈An Early Ming Porcelain in Muslim Style〉，《Aus der Welt der Islamischen Kunst. Festschrift fur Ernst Kuhnel》，柏林，1959年，此書同時錄有一較大銅胎綬帶耳蒜頭瓶例，見圖版 2A 及 2B，為 Eumorforpoulos 舊藏，後售於倫敦蘇富比1940年6月5日，編號72，現存美國華盛頓弗瑞爾美術館。
