This work is overall in very good condition. There is evidence of a small area of dry paints located approximately 15 cm to the right edge and 30 cm to the top edge. The yellowish old varnish in the catalogue illustration has been cleaned and the work is whiter and brighter in the flesh. Under UV: there is no evidence of restoration.

1950年代末，趙無極跳脫出「甲骨文」時期，開始追求純粹的抽象，進而發展以中國文化為根基的獨特風格。1959至1960年間，他更加深入鑽研畫面空間與構圖，力求藝術突破。1960年，其作品首度展現特殊的「水平構圖」，將畫布以水平式分三大部分。趙氏在《06.03.63》中減少用色，中段空間以黑為主，上下兩部分色調較亮。中段空間彷彿在無限的擠壓與收縮中，迸發出新的生命。《06.03.63》以白色、米色及墨黑為主色調，淺色區域擔負最為重要的作用，開闢出一片對比鮮明的虛空，衝破畫面維度界限，和諧感油然而生。黯黑筆觸厚重而具有生機，橫跨畫面中段，似是映照趙無極想像中的神秘宇宙，廣闊無垠，生機無限。在古典時期，西方認為宇宙是一個由神主導的封閉空間，但在中國人眼中，造育萬物的大自然則不是一個僅僅為單點透視的空間，而是一個由內向外滲透且無限擴散的世界。法國藝評家菲利普‧達根曾指出：「趙無極六十年代的作品無視地心引力，空間似乎在打開和擴大……透視法則已不再奏效。」《06.03.63》中的留白與墨線，使人聯想起濃霧裡若隱若現的遼遠山谷，彷彿宋朝畫家馬遠的《山水人物軸》。觀者可見畫家筆鋒一氣呵成，毫無遲滯猶疑，伴隨明快的律動，盡現趙無極對於中國水墨畫純熟技巧的自信掌握。

現歐洲藏家於1964年自法蘭西畫廊購得《06.03.63》，自此收藏逾五十載。現首次釋於拍場，實屬難得罕見，是收藏家購藏趙無極珍罕作品之千載良機。
