Captain Thomas Poppleton (1775-1827) was the Orderly Officer at Longwood from 10 December 1815 to 24 July 1817. He had an unusually good relationship with Napoleon and the other residents of Longwood and was the only Orderly Officer who had the honour of dining with the former Emperor. He lost the goodwill of his commanding officer when it was discovered that he had received a gift from Napoleon.
