A wartime letter from the time of Prince Rupert's ascendancy. Rupert spent the first winter of the war assisting with improvements to Oxford's defences and probing Parliamentary forces in the surrounding counties. Leicestershire was of crucial importance as Royalist control there would ease communication with the Royalist army in the north commanded by Newcastle.
