劉國松在水墨畫探索過程中發展的風格多樣而獨特，只有少數當代藝術家能與他匹敵。其作品清晰可見時代精神對他的影響，從抽象表現主義到描繪登月壯舉，然而他卻從不隨波逐流。他的月球作品系列在七十年代中期達到巔峰，劉國松其後嘗試發展一套全新技巧，重塑早期山水畫中呈現的細緻精煉抽象筆觸。
