一九三七年,生於浙江杭州的陳家泠是「新海派」的重要代表人物,早年畢業於浙江美術學院人物畫專業,師承潘天壽與陸儼少。陳家泠在其創作生涯初期與同儕仇德樹共同成立了中國首個藝術實驗社團「草草社」,旨在為水墨藝術帶來革新。仇氏的「裂變」系列(拍品編號15)便是當時以撕裂拼貼的方式創作的特立獨行之作。後又主攻花鳥,並創造出個性鮮明的「陳家樣」,即具有中國哲理性,兼有印象派、抽象派及表現主義特點的現代水墨新流派。
陳家泠的繪畫超脫了寫意花鳥中慣常的圖示風格,而是呈現出一派「不似之似」間的耐人尋味之感,在水墨與紙面滲透的不可確定性中,開拓了一方以水墨表現中國藝術精神的新領域。《靈變冊》(拍品編號32) 甄編了十二幅陳家泠的繪畫精品,或寫紅梅;或寫小鳥;或寫牽牛;或寫蓮荷;或寫翠竹……陳家泠筆下看似幼稚,笨拙的畫面體現出的卻是對筆,墨,紙三者關係的獨到且深厚的理解。他不拘泥於筆法與章法,卻鍾愛色彩在紙面上自然的渲染和滲透。郎紹君如此評價道:「陳家泠的作品突出淡墨、淡色在生宣紙上的滲化效果,是對傳統沒骨法的創造性處理——讓畫面空前的淡雅、空靈、縹緲。這種追求,與文人藝術家「天然去雕飾」的審美理想有關,更與中國繪畫追求的「空兮靈兮,元氣絪縕」「香消爐中,不火而熏」的境界相一致。」1
在《靈變冊》的跋中,陳家泠以濃淡靈躍、律動自由的書法自述了其創作的感懷:「靈感即靈思敏感,即化偶然為必然。那種不斷充滿靈感之光使之無竭,那種不斷發現偶然使之有序,即為靈力。靈力是藝術家一切創造的源頭,運用靈力能化朽腐為神奇,能舉一反三,能遷想妙得,能爭奇鬥豔,這就是靈變,靈變是藝術的真諦。」
二〇一三年,《化境——陳家泠藝術展》在中國國家博物館展出,陳家泠成為為數不多的在國博成功舉辦個人畫展的藝術家。二〇一四年,賈樟柯監製的紀錄片《陳家泠》在第九屆羅馬國際電影節進行「榮譽放映」,影片用真實的鏡頭語言詮釋了海派大師陳家泠追尋「中國夢」的藝術人生,這也是中國當代藝術家傳記片首次在最高級別的國際影展上的亮相。
