Condition
Laid down on old mount. Overall in good condition. There are a few tiny foxmarks in the upper section of the sheet, barely visible. Chalk remains fresh and strong.

Robert, in this red chalk landscape, depicts an idyllic scene where two ladies are enjoying a boat trip along a river. The composition leads the eye along the river to where two fisherman are located on the banks at the water's edge. The drawing was likely to have been executed en plein air, or at least sketched in part on the spot. Stylistically, in terms of the handling of the foliage, it can be compared with Robert's, Jeunes Filles a La Cage, in the collection at the Musée de Valence.1
