3979型號是百達翡麗的第一款自動上弦三問腕錶。本系列序號由1,904,000開始，故本品是此系列第12枚出品。系列原本為慶祝1989年百達翡麗誕生150週年而創制，此後持續生產，直至2002年停產。

機芯R27 PS內有342件零件，兼具迷你擺陀作自動上弦裝置。 三問報時裝置採用「大教堂音簧」，音色沉厚，餘音悠長。

本品的白色琺瑯錶盤由琺瑯藝術大師Donzé製作。錶殼工藝大師Jean-Pierre Hagmann 僅為此系列製作過數件錶殼，本品為其中之一，見下方錶耳之間的JPH標記。
