The jar is in excellent condition overall. There are three small frits, resulting from burst air bubbles, the largest covering an area of approximately 0.3 x 0.1 cm (with associated glaze loss), and a tiny burst air bubble on the rim. There are small ironspots and stained pinholes on the interior floor.

傳世品中著錄過同紋飾的渣斗共計五件。兩岸故宮博物院各藏一件，見《故宮博物院藏文物珍品全集．青花釉裏紅（上）》 ，香港，2000 年，圖版113（圖一）；《明代宣德官窰菁華特展圖錄》，台北，1998年，編號18。第三件原為Oppenheim舊藏，現藏倫敦大英博物館，見Jessica Harrison-Hall，《Ming Ceramics in the British Museum》，倫敦，2011年，編號4:38。第四件為英國大衛德基金會藏品，見 Margaret Medley，《The Chinese Potter》，倫敦，2001年（再版），圖147和148。另一件1991年4月30日於香港蘇富比拍賣，編號13，並著錄於《世界陶磁全集》，卷11，東京，1981年，圖版71及Masahiki Sato，《Chinese Ceramics》，紐約及東京，1981年，頁164，圖236。

一件只有9.5公分大，腹部飾卷草紋，頸部飾蕉葉紋的渣斗同樣源自R.H.R. Palmer 舊藏1989年1月17日於香港佳士得拍賣，編號570；另一件1959年11月30日於倫敦蘇富比拍賣，編號23，1974年10月31日再次拍賣，編號65。

江崖海水紋是明早期青花瓷器上常見的紋飾，至宣德此紋飾已由襯底的陪襯紋樣變為主紋飾，且水波漸轉淘湧，有別於前朝簡約。此器上海浪紋中間以挺立的岩石相間，為「江崖海水」紋，象徵西王母的蓬萊仙島，最早見於永樂青花瓷器上。「江崖海水」紋象徵福山壽海、江山大業之吉祥意願。

英國學者Margaret Medley認為，台階式圈足始於宣德晚期，間歇延用至成化年間。

渣斗源自古青銅尊，經過時代的演變，渣斗的口沿變得更為外撇，器腹較為嬌小。渣斗又稱唾壺，但確實用途，有待查考。此器形始見於十五世紀，近年被重新定代的鈞窰器中，也有相同的器形，美國舊金山亞洲藝術博物館藏品，見He Li，《Chinese Ceramics》，倫敦，1996年，頁152，圖版246。明正德朝瓷器也見此類器形，一件黃地綠彩龍紋渣斗，見前註，Jessica Harrison-Hall，圖版8:32。
