This fine pair of bowls are in very good condition. It should be noted that the stone is of a very slightly more pale-celadon-white tone than the catalogue illustration would suggest.

Kenneth Dingwall DSO中校生於英格蘭Caterham鎮，曾獲頒授多個重要勳章，並為東亞瓷器收藏家。1894年出任戈登高地軍團中校，1895至1898年間駐守英屬印度西北邊境省 ，1899年因布爾戰爭奉命往南非前線，屢立戰功，1901年獲頒DSO勳章榮譽。1904年退役，1914年一戰爆發，Dingwall再返英軍麾下，多次出任副軍法官 。其人好古慕雅，熱衷收藏中國瓷器，1921年偕友成立東方陶瓷學會 。曾任英國國家藝術收藏基金會委員 ，並為維多利亞與艾伯特博物館1910及1937年間最大額個人捐贈者，1948年，四件珍品再遺贈予大英博物館。部份收藏售於倫敦蘇富比1933年3月10日，共90件珍品，多為唐至明朝瓷器精品。

本品比例均稱完美，琢磨細緻，盌面潤澤，光可鑑人，頂級白玉刻造，實為乾隆一朝玉器之至臻典範。造型細膩 精巧，源自瓷器設計，素淨無紋，既顯藝匠崇敬玉石之意，亦符中國尚玉文化。本品採用大塊無瑕美玉，色澤均勻，於十八世紀中葉開始廣為宮廷作坊御用。見一作例，尺寸略大，曾展於《Jades from China》，東亞藝術博物館 ，巴斯，1994年，編號340，引述1753年「101塊玉籽料原石 ，共重2 1/3噸，規模之大前所未見，訂自蘇州…玉盌及柞木各一百。」（見頁389）。

現存同類盌例數件 ，或屬前述玉器批次，其一曾展於《Later Chinese Jades. Ming Dynasty to Early Twentieth Century》，亞洲藝術博物館，三藩市，2007年，編號113，展覽圖錄作者指出，此類玉盌溯自瓷盌原型，壁薄晶瑩，質感通透，玉色純淨。 另一成對盌例藏於倫敦大英博物館，圖見Jessica Rawson，《Chinese Jade from the Neolithic to the Qing》，倫敦，1995年，圖版29:13，作者指出，此等玉盌以瓷盌為 雛本 ， 光素無紋，似為餐飲器皿之至高典範。大清律例 限制玉器用途，文學小說人物以玉盌、玉盃飲食，玉器地位崇高可見一斑（見頁400）。另一可資對比同例，曾展於《玉緣‧德安堂藏玉展》，故宮博物院，北京，2004年，編號116；Cunliffe勳爵收藏一對例，尺寸略大，售於倫敦邦瀚斯2002年11月11日，編號10，後於香港蘇富比易手，2005年5月2日，編號555。另一對例售於香港佳士得2012年12月1日，編號3001。

另有各式玉盌，屬乾隆年器並款，色澤紛呈，其一白玉作例曾售於紐約蘇富比2007年3月19日，編號618；另有碧玉白玉盌例各一件，售於香港佳士得2010年12月1日，編號3248 ；另一例為成對翡翠盌，售於香港蘇富比1995年10月31日，編號743，後易手於紐約蘇富比2012年3月20日，編號278。
