Designs for very similar were produced by W. Smee & Sons. The company produced a catalogue 'Designs for Furniture' from 1850 to 1855. These were hugely successful with the burgeoning middle classes and set a pattern for 'Trade' catalogues that was to last some time. They were retailers as well as wholesalers and associated with work of high quality exhibiting at a number of International Exhibitions. For a very similar design in their 1850 catalogue see Joy, Edward, Pictorial Dictionary of British 19th Century Furniture Design, Woodbridge, 1977, p.355.
