Condition

Very light cracks could be found at the upper right section of the painting, where the ink and colours are particularly thick. Near the middle right border is a hidden seal marked 'Da Feng Tang' which was on the paper deliberately made by the artist which is not a condition problem. Otherwise, generally in good condition.

註:本幅題句取自唐代文學家司空圖(837-908)的經典詩論著作
〈詩品〉。司空表聖以四言詩品評不同種類的詩,示其風格與意
境。此四句列於「超詣」,即謂超越尋常,可喻為境界已超越塵
俗,乃源於本性所致,與世俗相違。若以自然景象形容之,就似
亂山高崖上的喬木,接天而上,當月出映照碧苔,一片通明清
澈,毋為外物所凝滯,直達超越境地。

大千先生晚歲以喬木高士為題材之人物畫多以「喬木芳暉」或「神
木老人」名之。所謂「神木」,當指台灣自然奇景之阿里山千年老
樹。畫中老人立於樹下,仰首高瞻參天矗立之古木,臉容描繪有
若畫家自我寫照,頗類自畫像;人樹皆遐齡倚持,不無寄寓自壽
之意。至於畫家晚年之潑墨潑彩技法運用嫻熟自如,已臻渾然天
成、不受物象拘限之境地,故取〈詩品〉之「超詣」詩句移題於上,
題曰「喬木芳暉」,則具自許之意。

本幅雙題,按規格先紀年署款,復添「超詣」詩句於畫面上方。既
使書畫相襯,構圖更形均衡豐富,亦藉此點出與破墨法相參。而
所謂「得言外意」,字裡行間,流露出他對此作寫來滿意之情。毋
須明言,觀者自可領略。

他對作畫選用之材料,舉凡筆墨紙硯皆十分講究。斥鉅資搜購佳
楮舊墨以至內府御用之物,不在話下。更委付良工名匠製造,如
「藝壇主盟」筆、仿宋羅紋紙等,早已成為「大風堂」作畫用料之標
誌。本幅即取新製之仿宋羅紋紙,取其發墨佳,毋澀滯之弊,寫
來運筆順暢,益得心手相應之效。從潑灑的色墨濃淡深淺交融下
隱現道道紙張帘紋,令色塊中形成了特殊的圖案,而紙張標記的
「大風堂」方型水印亦清𥇦可見。

雖屬畫家晚年所出,從選料、取材、繪製以至題跋位置及內容,
卻見考慮周詳,無絲毫敷衍馬虎處;且諸般細節俱消融於渾然天
成中,了無斧鑿之痕迹,下筆時神完氣足,精力盈貫,愜意自
如,足堪想像。得神品若此,與現藏者和畫家身邊摯友的交情,
不無關係,亦大千先生性格豪爽使然也!
