There are some losses along the common margins of the five panels, otherwise in good condition overall. There are creases and pulls to the paper, which are consistent with the artist's use of hand-made fibrous paper. The colors are intense. Rolled.

劉國松研習中國傳統水墨以及西方表現派油畫，擅長以畫紙紋理及鮮艷顏色作為實驗元素，更成為二十世紀新水墨的重大貢獻之一。他在濕潤的畫紙運用水墨，或以噴槍塗上壓克力顏料，這種非以筆法為主的山水作品，融合了抽象及表現主義的藝術視野。是次拍賣呈獻之《子夜太陽》尺幅宏大，因藝術家受1969年人類登月創舉啟發，開始透過探索不同的筆觸技巧，整合出幾何圖形的各種形態。本作是劉國松一系列以月球為創作靈感的早期作品，其西方表現派筆法，融會輪廓分明的繪畫形式，對後代的畫家影響深遠。
