Sotheby’s is delighted to present The Political Cartoon Collection of Jeffrey Archer. Comprising 240 original artworks, this is one of the most significant collections of original cartoons in private hands.
The collection has been put together over the last 30 years as a joint enterprise between Lord Archer and illustration gallerist, Chris Beetles. From the first cartoon, acquired for the collection in 1986, to the last, care has been taken to build a comprehensive collection, presenting the best of over two centuries of an art form that seeks to record and satirise the world of politics. Sixty-two cartoonists are represented, including major artists such as Gillray, Cruikshank, Tenniel, Beerbohm, Shepard, Vicky, and Searle as well as the best living political cartoonists, including Peter Brookes, Gerald Scarfe and Ralph Steadman.
With estimates ranging from £200 to £20,000 there is truly something for every enthusiast of this important art form. The auction will be sold to benefit educational charities.
