Sotheby’s inaugural Contemporary Curated sale in London, guest-curated by fashion designer Erdem Moralioglu, achieved a total of £2.8 million.
The sale was led by Yayoi Kusama’s vibrant Fear of Death from 2008 that sold to a private collector for £305,000, followed by Antony Gormley’s cast iron Insider VIII/Weeds I that realised £173,000. Fourteen works were also sold to benefit PEER – the acclaimed Hoxton-based arts charity – that together raised over £56,000. Two new artist records were set for Leonor Antunes and Clemént Rosenthal.
On 15 March 2016, Sotheby’s London will hold its inaugural Contemporary Curated auction. Following in the footsteps of our hugely successful Contemporary Curated sales in New York, this exciting initiative is a response to the ever-growing demand of the middle market, with a focus on offering works from a more accessible introduction point for the new collector.
Contemporary Curated will be guest-curated by celebrated fashion designer Erdem Moralioglu and this collaboration will offer a fresh and innovative new platform. Works featured include a wonderful British group sold to benefit PEER and beautiful examples by the leading names in Contemporary Art, such as Christopher Wool Alex Katz, Antony Gormley and Yayoi Kusama.
