Sotheby's forthcoming London Contemporary Art Day Sale on 13 February presents an exciting offering of works by a wide range of established and upcoming artists. The morning session opens with outstanding examples of postwar abstraction, including an elegant Sergio Camargo from a Distinguished European Collection, a wonderful miniature Alexander Calder mobile, an iconic Günther Uecker, an immaculate white Lucio Fontana and additional seminal Arte Povera works of rare quality. Ten works from a London Private Collection comprise a remarkable group of examples by leading UK-based artists Lucian Freud, Paula Rego, Frank Auerbach and Leon Kossoff. The ensemble is a resounding testament to the vision and curatorial expertise of its collector.
The afternoon session inaugurates Parker Ito’s auction debut and includes strong examples from today’s most sought-after mid-career and emerging artists such as Lucien Smith, Dan Colen, Lynette Yiadom-Boakye, Mark Flood and Tauba Auerbach. The afternoon session also includes, amongst many others, an exceptional Sterling Ruby, a sublime Glenn Brown science-fiction painting and an impressive Christopher Wool work on paper.
We are also proud to offer two delightful works by Sir Antony Gormley and Wolfgang Tillmans to benefit the Art Against Knives Charity, as well as an opalescent Gerhard Richter Cage Grid print to benefit the Make EVERY Kidney Count Appeal.
