Our 21 May auction brought $3 million. Leading the sale was a rare and important Comanche painted hid shield and two cover which achieved $413,000. Winold Reiss’s, Mike Little Dog painting portraying a member of the Blackfeet Indian Nation, this gouache and pastel soared to $149,000 over a high estimate of $90,000.

The sale showcases the best examples of American Indian artistic traditions as well as Western paintings, sculpture and works on paper spanning 2000 years of these cultural and aesthetic traditions. This year’s sale is distinguished by the collection of Linda Marcus which comprises master works from the Comanche, Crow, Sioux, Tsimshian and Tlingit tribes.
