The Contemporary Art Day sale held in London on 27th June includes both classical pieces from the notable movements of the Post War period, along with paintings and sculptures by the leading names of the contemporary art world. The morning session is highlighted by Gerhard Richter’s pioneering work,Moor, from 1983, seven magical works on paper by Joseph Beuys from a Private German Collector as well as works by other highly sought after post-war and Pop artists including Lucio Fontana, Günther Uecker, Joseph Albers, Maria-Helena Vieira da Silva, Mimmo Rotella and Andy Warhol. In addition to this exciting roster, we are thrilled include in the morning session three remarkable works on paper by Sigmar Polke from the Friedrich-Christian Flick Collection, Berlin. Proceeds from the sale of these works will directly benefit the late artist Christoph Schlingensief’s visionary Opernsdorf Afrika Charity.
The afternoon session brings to the block an exciting and fresh mix of younger contemporary artists including Ryan Sullivan, Alex Hubbard, Thomas Housaego and Seth Price, alongside auction stalwarts Roni Horn, John Baldessari and Yoshitomo Nara among others. In addition to works by these outstanding artists is Peter Doig’s White Out, an impressively textured and evocatively executed image which graces the catalogue cover. The afternoon session also includes four exceptional works by Louise Bourgeois from a Prominent Private Collection to be sold in concert with three outstanding works in our Contemporary Art Evening sale on 26th June.
We are also proud to include in our afternoon session a group of twelve works sold to benefit the Helen Bamber Foundation. With pieces generously donated by both leading contemporary artists such as Ai Weiwei, Anish Kapoor and Damien Hirst, as well as the world renowned architects Renzo Piano, David Chipperfield and Richard Rogers, the sale marks an extraordinary opportunity to support the Foundation and their unwavering commitment to the preservation of human rights. We look forward to welcoming you to our galleries on the 23rd June.
