|191||Neil Jeffares has kindly pointed out that the date is in fact 1785 ("Boze f./1785"), not 1783, so the pastel (as the provenance suggests) is likely to be the primary version recorded in Boze's Grand livre de comptes as commissioned in April 1785 for 1200 livres. (Bibliothèque d'art et d'archéologie, manuscript Ms72, folio 13: "1785 avril/Pour le Portrait original en buste de S.A.R. en pastel 50 Louis"). In addition to this Monsieur Gerard Fabre proposes that the date is actually 1786, when the payment for the pastel is recorded.|
