Alexis Maggiar joined Sotheby’s in 2007. He began his career in 2001 with the famous art dealer Alain de Monbrison before moving on to Calmels Cohen Auctioneers. It was this experience, working alongside experts and collectors, which first made him aware of the inextricable link between Modern and Contemporary Art and African & Oceanic Art.
Within the African and Oceanic Arts Department, Alexis has forged a remarkable career over the past 10 years and his involvement was pivotal in major discoveries and numerous records reached in this field. He now advises major African and Oceanic Art collectors.
Based in Paris, Alexis is since January 2018, the Head of African and Oceanic Art in Europe, developing a consistent global strategy in this growing market.
