The three-day sale of the Robert de Balkany collection has raised a combined total of €19.3 million ($21.6 million / £16.5 million), making it the highest total ever achieved for a collection of Decorative Arts and Old Master Paintings at Sotheby’s in Paris. The sale had 1,100 registered bidders with 300 online participants from 30 countries across the world. The top lot was the Borghese-Windsor Cabinet acquired by the J. Paul Getty museum which sold for €2.5 million, a world auction record for a piece of Roman furniture. A monumental organ clock by Charles Clay London sold for €867,000 to the Museum van Speelklok tot Pierement. Ahead of the sale, 4,000 people visited the exhibition over 11 days. The luxurious collection was assembled over more than 50 years by the businessman, who housed it in the magnificent interiors of the Hôtel de Feuquière. Click ahead to see the top lots.
