Living at the heart of Parisian and European society, Robert Zellinger de Balkany (1931–2015) was a flamboyant businessman and a passionate collector. Over a period of several decades, de Balkany amassed a breathtaking collection of fine decorative furniture, clocks and Italian and English Old Master paintings which adorned the walls of his homes, including the Hôtel de Feuquières in the Rue de Varenne, Paris. Here, we explore some of the works included in the sale of over 800 lots, spanning portraiture from Anthony van Dyck and George Stubbs, to exquisite silverware once owned by the French royal family.
