Published on page 8 of The House at Pooh Cornerfrom chapter one 'In which a house is built at Pooh Corner for Eeyore'.

The drawing is captioned below the mount "So they got down off the gate" together with "The House at Pooh Corner". At the top of the board the remains of another caption can be seen ("Piglet [doing] the tiddely-poms and Pooh doing [the rest of it]"). This reveals that Shepard drew two illustrations, in sequence, on the same piece of artist's board.

The frame is thought to be the original frame from the Sporting Gallery exhibition held at the end of 1928. The frame includes "They got down off the gate | Item 4 | 8 gns" in pencil on the reverse.
