RESULTS
The sale and achieved a final total of £3,642,375, exceeding pre-sale expectations. Two sapphire and diamond pieces from the 1930s led the auction: a ring, which sold for £112,500, and a bracelet, which sold for £87,500. A fancy intense yellow diamond ring, estimated at £45,000–65,000, sold for £77,500. Further highlights included a ruby and diamond necklace and an emerald ring, which sold for £65,000 and £58,750 respectively.
AUCTION DETAILS
Sotheby’s is delighted to begin its 2016 year of jewellery sales with the Fine Jewels auction on 15 March in London. Presenting an impressive and curated selection of jewels from the 19th century to the present day, the Fine Jewels sale carries estimates from £1,000 to £60,000.
Buyers will be able to select jewels from legendary European houses such as Van Cleef and Cartier, as well as American makers like Raymond Yard and Marcus and Co. There is a broad selection of diamonds and coloured stones including some impressive Burmese rubies, Colombian emeralds, and Kashmir sapphire.
