Sotheby’s fundraising auction to benefit the ‘1 in 11’ campaign raised a final total of £2,663,000 million. The sale kicked off with a bespoke football designed by Takashi Murakami and signed by both Lionel Messi and the artist, which soared above its pre-sale estimate of £500-1,000 to £45,000. The top lot of the evening was Jeff Koons’s Donkey (Yellow) from 1999, which sold for £557,000. Two paintings depicting Lionel Messi by Damien Hirst and Takashi Murakami sold for a combined total of £6.82 million.
