One of the many highlights in the Estate of Dolores Sherwood Bosshard, a sapphire and diamond stylized bow brooch by Van Cleef & Arpels, 1937, achieved $162,500 in the Important Jewels sale. The beautiful jewels from the Bosshard Estate brought $2.3 million overall, nearly double the presale high estimate. An emerald-cut F color diamond of 30.15 carats sold for $2,590,000 was the top lot in the auction.

Vibrant in color and striking in style, signed jewels by renowned makers such as Bulgari, Van Cleef & Arpels and Jean Schlumberger highlight the first major sale of the fall auction season. Pieces formerly from the collections of women including Estée Lauder, Mrs. Spelman Prentice and Mamie Doud Eisenhower offer an abundance of jewels with a provenance as notable as their design.
From the nineteenth century to the present day and from daytime to nighttime, the Important Jewels sale illustrates the transformative power of wearing jewelry. Delicate turn-of-the-century garland-style jewels are offered alongside geometrically inclined Deco pieces and contemporary creations as eclectic modern collectors are presented opportunities to create one-of-a-kind jewelry wardrobes of their own. Jewels from the Estate of Dolores Sherwood Bosshard prove the power of a jewelry collection, varied in style and rich in design, to stand the test of changing fashions. A sapphire and diamond-encrusted stylized bow brooch by Van Cleef & Arpels from 1937 is complemented by glittering diamond-set clusters by Harry Winston from the 1960s. Also on offer in the Important Jewels sale is a range of pieces from Aldo Cipullo and Bulgari which display the combination of tailored restraint and excessive glamour that defined 1970s style.
With estimates starting from $5,000, the Important Jewels sale allows opportunities for jewelry collectors and admirers alike to acquire treasures to fit every style and occasion. Fine white diamonds and lively colored stones fashioned into a variety of designs round out the impressive selection of signed jewels on offer.
