OVERVIEW
The sale is led by a masterpiece by Jacob de Heusch of the Forum Romanum, a large scale canvas juxtaposing the decayed grandeur of ancient Rome with the realism of 17th century daily city life. Two French works, a rediscovered Claude Vignon of St. Jerome, previously known only through an old copy, and a pair of small studies of night and day by Jean-Honoré Fragonard, are of particluar note, while a small signed summer landscape by Abel Grimmer leads an eclectic group of paintings from the Dutch and Flemish schools.
