OVERVIEW

Jean-Marc Thévenet, the specialist in charge of this sale, has a long association with the world of comics. He was editor of the magazine Pilote in the 1980s and director of the International Comics Festival of Angoulême from 1998 to 2006, in addition to curating a number of important exhibitions including Archi & BD, la ville dessinée and Une autre histoire, bande dessinée l’oeuvre peint at the Cité de l’architecture et du patrimoine and most recently at the Cité internationale de la bande dessinée et de l’image d’Angoulême.

The selection of comics for this first dedicated sale includes about 100 comics of the most emblematic artists of what is also known as the 9th art. From the beginning of the 20th century until today, comics has enjoyed a close relationship with fine art, for example, the highly influential and recently-defunct comic, Giraud/Gir/Moebius, is represented in this sale with the cover of the Album La Déviation (1980 aux Humanoïdes Associés), which replicates the intense blue of Yves Klein. Another highlight of this diverse sale is a cover of number 43 of the Petit Vingtième from 1932, a precursor of the magazine Tintin, has an early version of the boy reporter travelling by steamer, an early travel image from Hergé.
