Yuki Terase joined Sotheby’s in 2011. She is a specialist in Contemporary Asian Art department, responsible for introducing Japanese contemporary art from postwar to present in the Asian market. Since joining the Hong Kong office in 2015, Ms. Terase has successfully established the Full Circle: Yoshihara Jiro Collection auction, a stand-alone white glove sale of the Gutai founder that has further cemented Sotheby’s position as a category leader in Asia. As a curator, she has played a key role in bringing in new and creative ideas to Sotheby’s business in Hong Kong, including two successful white glove sales with street fashion master NIGO (NIGO® Only Lives Twice and Return of the NIGO), as well as the SHASHIN! S|2 exhibition.

During her tenure in Sotheby’s Tokyo office, Ms. Terase established important relationships with Chinese Classical and Modern paintings clients in Japan, significantly increasing Sotheby’s presence in the region. She has consistently brought in milestone pieces, among them a Ming Dynasty sutra which sold at US$14 million to set a world record for any Chinese painting outside of Asia to date.

Prior to joining Sotheby’s, Ms. Terase worked for Morgan Stanley as a member of its Mergers and Acquisition advisory team in Tokyo. She received a master’s degree from Hitotsubashi University as a scholarship student in an accelerated program. Most recently, in 2011, she completed a postgraduate course at Christie’s Education in London, specializing in the history of Western art.
