After 15 years at Sotheby’s in a number of different roles, in January 2015 Marcus Fox joined the Contemporary Art department in New York as the Head of Business. In this role Marcus is responsible for the management of the department, strategic direction of the business as well as supporting the buying and consigning process both through auction and Private Sales.
For the three years prior, Marcus was the founding Head of Private Sales, North America. During his tenure, this newly formed division supported over $2 billion in sales and represented a major area of growth for Sotheby’s.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Fox was a Division Director, managing a number of specialist departments for Sotheby’s North America including the Watches, Fine Arts, 19th Century European Paintings, Prints, Photographs, and Canadian Art departments. Prior to assuming his Divisional role, Mr. Fox oversaw the Business Managers department in New York while simultaneously leading the development of administrative and financial elements of the Regional Auction business. He has also served as the Business Manager for the Furniture and Decorative Arts division, where he worked on a series of high profile single-owner sales including the townhouse of Gianni Versace and the Collections of Lily and Edmond Safra.
Mr. Fox is a graduate of the College of William & Mary in Virginia with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
