Charting two millennia of history and 500 years of collecting, Sotheby’s will offer a range of items in auction sales from the historic houses of the Dukes of Northumberland at Alnwick Castle and Syon House.  The items to be sold span a wide range of periods and media.

The earliest work is a Roman marble statue of Aphrodite from the 1st Century A.D, to be sold among seventeen works in the Treasures sale which include a marble topped commode by William Kent, one of Britain’s greatest architects and designers. Beautiful works by Giovanni da Rimini and Jan Brueghel the Elder will feature in the Old Master Paintings Evening Sale, whilst other items cover rare books and manuscripts, and works of art from Europe, South East Asia and the Islamic world. Together, the 73 lots to be sold by the Trustees of the Northumberland Estates carry a combined estimate in excess of £15 million.
