Sotheby's sale of Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels realised $175.1 million / CHF 171 million, a new world record for any jewellery sale, breaking the previous record set by Sotheby’s a year ago in May 2015. The auction was led by the spectacular and supremely rare 'Unique Pink', which achieved $31.6 million / CHF 30.8 million, a record for a stone of its type, and the fancy intense blue diamond brooch by Alexandre Reza, which achieved $13.7m/CHF13.4m, setting the world auction record for a jewel by Reza. This sale saw participation from 45 countries, one of the highest levels of international participation for any jewellery sale at Sotheby's, with 70% of lots selling over the high estimate.
Sotheby's Geneva is proud to present the May sale of Magnificent Jewels & Noble Jewels. The auction features an impressive spectrum of coloured diamonds, the highlight of which is “The Unique Pink”, the largest Fancy Vivid pink pear-shaped diamond ever offered at auction. Also in the sale is a spectacular collection of early 20th-century creations by Cartier, as well as period jewels with noble provenance, and fine coloured gemstones.
