Cécile Verdier joined Sotheby's in January 2008, following a distinguished career in the French market and a long tenure at Christie's. Under her leadership Sotheby's became in 2013 the leading auction house for 20th Century Design, both in Europe and worldwide, and maintains that leadership today. This is the result of close relationship with key international collectors, strong expertise, and a strategy for developing each segment of the market, from early 20th-century Art Nouveau and Art and Craft, to French Art Deco, mid-century and Contemporary Design. As well as driving the success of our regular various-owners sales, Cécile has overseen the sale of a number of important collections with great results, including the Marc du Plantier collection (2008), the Christian Lacroix salon de couture (2009), the Garden Museum collection (2013), the Felix Marcilhac collection (2014), and the Polo collection (2016), as well as thematic sales that brings a number of world records. Together with her team, she organised the first auction devoted to the works of Claude and Francois-Xavier Lalanne (2015), which doubled pre-sale estimates. Cécile is also Vice-President of the Musée des Art Décoratifs in Paris.
