Allan Gotlieb is the Chairman of Sotheby's Canada. He is the former Canadian Ambassador to the United States and has held other senior government posts. He is also the Chairman of the Donner Canadian Foundation in addition to serving on the Board or international Advisory Board of several major Canadian and other corporations. Mr Gotlieb is the Canadian Chairman and North American Vice Chairman of the Trilateral Commission and is a Trustee of the Art Gallery of Ontario. He is a Companion of the Order of Canada and a recipient of the Outstanding Achievement Award of the Government of Canada.
Mr Gotlieb has served on numerous Canadian and international arbitration tribunals and cultural organisations. He has written widely on international law and diplomacy, and currently serves as the Senior Advisor in the Toronto office of Bennett Jones, with particular focus on government relations.
He was educated at the University of California (BA), Harvard University (LLB), the University of Oxford (MABCL) and various other institutions (LLD). Mr Gotlieb is a Former William Lyon Mackenzie King Visiting Professor, Harvard University; Claude Bissell Visiting Professor, University of Toronto; and Visiting Fellow, Wadham College, Oxford. His book, The Washington Diaries 1981–1989, was published in 2006.
