Sports enthusiasts will likely recognize the late businessman and philanthropist Edward M. Snider as the former owner of the Philadelphia Flyers and one of the most influential figures in the National Hockey League. But the sports legend had another less well-known passion – art. An avid collector, Snider acquired works by some of the most distinguished masters of the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries, including Fragonard, Herring, Renoir and Bierstadt.
As always with Snider, it comes back to sports and to his philanthropic endeavours. Full proceeds from the sale of the eighteen works will benefit the Edward M. Snider Youth Hockey Supporting Organization, a charitable foundation that Mr Snider created in 2005.
