Jeweller and silversmith Gianmaria Buccellati, who created the striking silver wolf that features in the Importante Orfèvrerie Européenne, Boîtes en Or et Objets de Vitrine sale (12 April, Paris), invented a brand new technique to achieve the animal’s lifelike appearance. The naturalistic rendering of the wolf’s fur was created using a special process which involved each hair being individually soldered. Known as ‘lavorazione a pelo’ or ‘hair-like workmanship’, the technique saw countless silver filaments of varying length and thickness being welded to give the actual appearance of the natural coat to capture fine details such as hair, feathers and different types of skin.
The Importante Orfèvrerie Européenne, Boîtes en Or et Objets de Vitrine sale in Paris on 12 April brings together an array of magnificent creations by some of the most renowned European craftsmen from the past 400 years.
