Provenance

Edgar S. Oppenheimer (pencil note on front pastedown and citation in Roscoe, his [unnamed] sale, Sotheby's 22 June 1982, lot 47) — Justin Schiller (bookplate)

Bibliographie

S. Roscoe, John Newbery and His Successors (1975), J93 (1) & (1a) which are apparently identical.

Description

The first edition to be published by the Newberys, evidently unique, and dated by Roscoe to "not before 1768." The title and collation he gives under (1A) is the same as the present copy (though with only 5 plates), and he states "perhaps = no. (1)."
