These finely executed gouaches, and those in the following lot, appear to have been made by a Dutch, or possibly German, artist working in the first decades of the 17th century. They reflect the stylistic influence of Leonard Bramer and Adam Elsheimer, who were two of the key northern figures in the fascinating artistic melting-pot of early 17th-century Rome.
