RESULTS
Our second instalment of From Earth to Fire generated a total of £2,031,002, with over half of the lots selling above their high estimate. Top lots included a George II silver-gilt caddy set, Paul de Lamerie, circa 1732, which sold for £43,750 against an estimate of £12,000-18,000, while a rare Meissen Masonic ‘crinoline’ group, circa 1745, sold for £61,250 against an estimate of £20,000-30,000.
In Vertu, an Irish gold box, William Curie, circa 1745-50, sold for £11,875 against an estimate of £2,500-3,500. This dedicated sale of European Silver, Ceramics and Objects of Vertu once again highlighted the strength of the Decorative Arts market, and has now become an annual rendez-vous for all buyers, from the seasoned collector to the budding connoisseur.
AUCTION DETAILS
Following the success of the inaugural From Earth to Fire sale in May 2016, this second instalment is dedicated to the European Decorative arts of Ceramics, Silver and Objects of Vertu. A collection of gold and enamel snuff boxes, a group of early English Chelsea porcelain snuff bottles and bonbonnières are featured alongside masterpieces from British and European silversmiths.
