The auction achieved a final result of £2,274 500. The sale was led by Mahmoud Mokhtar's On the Banks of the Nile (Nahw Ma'a Elnil), which sold for £317,000, far above its pre-sale estimate of £30,000-40,000. Impressive results were also achieved for Tamara de Lempicka's Vase with Flowers (£245,000), Mahmoud Said's Nu aux Bracelets d'Or (£161,000), and two works by Mikuláš Medek: Three Events (£161,000) and Too Much Alcohol II (Vodka) (£100,000).
Sotheby’s 20th Century Art – A Different Perspective sale in London on 2 December will feature modern art from countries across Europe and around the Mediterranean by artists who have a strong regional following but are not yet part of the international mainstream. The sale will include a number of important Egyptian, Turkish, Arab and Iranian works as well as a good selection of contemporary and modern art from Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary. Highlights of the sale include works by Sandor Bortnyik, Mubin Orhon, Mikulas Medek and Sohrab Sepehri.
